Kenya announces crackdown on illicit alcohol production

The Kenyan Ministry of Internal Security has published a white paper on measures to address contraband and counterfeit alcohol manufacture and distribution. The paper proposes to increase surveillance and promote public awareness campaigns that highlight the health risks of consuming illicit alcohol. Currently counterfeit alcohol constitutes around 30% of the alcohol consumed in Kenya with consumption concentrated in rural areas and among low income groups.
