eSwatini raises taxes on cigarettes

Legislators in eSwatini have approved an increase in tax on tobacco products from 6% to 7% which raises its tobacco tax higher than neighbours South Africa and Mozambique. The change was implemented despite attempts from British American Tobacco to keep the tax at 6%, citing concerns that increased taxes would increase the illicit tobacco trade in the region.
