Brussels implements law banning smoking in the presence of young people

The Belgian government has published a law banning smoking in the presence of children. The law is primarily intended to address adults smoking in cars where children are present. Implementation began on 18 August 2019 with an information campaign and an initiative in which inspectors went to school gates to address smoking in cars when children are being driven to school. Inspectors have been authorised to issue on-the-spot fines to offenders.
